About SCMF

Female physician

The Sierra Community Medical Foundation (SCMF) seeks to serve the people in Placer, Nevada, Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa Counties. With the help of our partners, we seek to increase access to education about healthier lifestyles, especially for our indigent and uninsure community members.

SCMF operates on the goals of three programs. The Placer-Nevada Rx Drug Safety Coalition seeks to address issues involved with opioid safety and medication-assisted treatment access, including Naloxone. Our Physician Wellness Program works directly with physicians to provide opportunities to alleviate burnout, reduce stress, and put the joy back into the practice of medicine.  Program features include monthly peer to peer groups facilitated by a psychologist or certified life coach, virtual physical fitness classes, group outings such as biking, hiking and wine tasting, volunteer opportunities, certified financial wellness information and more. Our newest program, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)/Social Determinants of Health, targets healthcare disparities in underserved communities and seeks to inform the public about the consequences of adverse childhood experiences. We work to increase the placement of health professionals at school sites, use of health assessments, and distribution of health education.

SCMF helps provide the access to programs and health professionals working with high risk groups to address barriers that prevent healthy lifestyles. In collaboration with our partners we are here to serve individuals and their families, by providing trainings, prevention and health education, and workshops.  SCMF will continue its work in collaboration with local hospitals, community organizations, law enforcement and businesses to provide treatment and medical services to those that may not otherwise be able to access care.

Our Goals:

  • Increase the number of people who enroll in or maintain health care coverage.
  • Increase access to culturally competent, high quality health care providers and services for the underinsured and uninsured individuals.
  • Offer methods to help reduce opioid dependency.
  • Distribute Naloxone to law enforcement, treatment centers and the community.
  • Offer health screenings for addiction, dependency, and health disparities.
  • Provide steering committee and coalition activities to medical professionals and concerned members of the community.
  • Offer methods for physicians to address or prevent burnout and to maintain their mental health needs in a confidential environment.
  • Help our communities be the healthiest around!
